Devlog #0

Welcome!

Hello everyone! This is the first of (hopefully) many more devlogs.

My game Xolotl has been in development for about 4-5 months now, and so a lot of progress has been made.

Movement

Movement feels great, like a combination of Celeste and Hollow Knight, with a bit of Mario-like momentum.

To capture the feeling of being an axolotl, an animal that lives mostly on water, momentum serves as a way to show that the animal is 'wet' and 'slippery'.

Swimming

As stated before, axolotls live underwater mostly, so I wanted to caputure the feeling of swimming. When you enter water, physics completely change and you can move all around like real swimming

The Story

The story is a modern twist on the Aztec myths of the axolotl. Earth had no sun, but the gods had a plan to create it. Sacrifices were held, and the sun was created. The problem was, the new sun didn't move. Another sacrifice was needed, and the god of duality Xolotl was the chosen one. But he didn't want to die, so he escaped the Pantheon of the gods, losing his godly form. Now his mission is to defeat the gods that want to kill him and reach the Pantheon of the Gods to regain his godly form.

The world

The world is a very important aspect of the game. You will be able to explore different areas, each with it's own identity and style.

And that's it for the first devlog! Thank you for reading, and see you later!
